Jeremy Lewan ('22, SEBS/HC) is now the newest member of the Stormtracker 16 Meteorologist Team for WNEP-TV, in Scranton, PA! His hard work and pursuit of excellence have helped him realize his childhood dream of becoming a professional broadcast meteorologist. Rutgers Senior Harnessed the Power of Political Science

Though Neha Aluwalia was too young to vote in the 2016 presidential election, it altered her life’s trajectory.

“I’d wanted to be a teacher since I was little. The 2016 election was a major turning point of realizing that I was interested in politics and I had a role to play in politics,” said the Rutgers–New Brunswick Honors College senior. She will graduate from the School of Arts and Sciences with a double major in political science and German studies.

Rutgers Senior Helps Lead First Student Organization Dedicated to Ancient Jainism Religion

Raised under the principles of Jainism, Harshita Jain wanted the ancient Indian religion to be integral to her college experience. When she arrived at Rutgers–New Brunswick in 2018, the Honors College senior found a strong Jain community.

“Having a well-knit community like this one supported me in ways I did not know I would need,” she said. Jain learned from others how to integrate Jain teachings into her daily life and developed lifelong friendships.

Growing Trend Toward Inclusion in the Arts Reflected in Rutgers Student Theater Groups

For the first time in 48 years, all three student theater groups at Rutgers-New Brunswick are being led by artistic directors of color.

It’s no coincidence, said the trio – Cabaret Theatre’s Uchenna Agbu, College Avenue Players’ Kyle Cao and Livingston Theater Company’s Kira Harris. Their diversity reflects a growing trend toward inclusion both at Rutgers and in the arts, media and society at large, they said.

Mother’s Struggle Inspires Daughter’s Journey Into Medicine

Samantha Eng’s call to pursue a career in medicine and help heal physical and emotional pain grew out of her experience in preschool accompanying her mother for medical treatment in her quest to have another child.

In the doctor’s office, Eng observed many medical procedures, including injections, blood draws, and scans. "Instead of looking away during these procedures, I stared, fascinated. The staff were kind and explained what was happening with each test."

But there was something else about the experience that shaped the way Eng thinks about medicine.

Casey Fortson ('25, SAS/HC), a public health major and political science minor, ventured to Mississippi in June as part of a nationally competitive fellowship meant to open both his eyes and his heart. While there, he noticed similar health and social issues in underserved communities to those in his New Jersey hometown. With experience in advocacy work and interest in public health and policy, he hopes to help.
