The Honors College Forum, taken by half of the Honors College student body in fall 2015, focuses on social innovation to help set our students on a path toward a career with purpose. Students gather for lectures with guest speakers and also work in small seminars and still smaller teams to create truly innovative ideas for tackling some of the world's greatest challenges.

Rutgers Class of 2019: Diverse, Accomplished and Largest Ever

Members of the Rutgers Class of 2019 are making their mark on the world even before they set foot on campus as members of the largest incoming class ever at the state university. 

Inspired by the brother she knew only as “different,” Angelina Lim Shu Xian organized the first autism awareness program in her home city of Penang, Malaysia, then went on to publish a well-received book of poetry featuring the inner thoughts of a child who has autism.

Arielle Marie Gamboa fell hard for biomedical engineering while doing a research project on prosthetics during her freshman year in high school. 

During her senior year at the International School of Chouifat in Dubai, a representative from Rutgers came to talk about the university and its soon-to-open Rutgers Honors College in New Brunswick. 

Gamboa was hooked.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno and Rutgers President Robert Barchi today hosted the dedication of the Rutgers University-New Brunswick Honors College. The new facility, located on the university’s historic College Avenue Campus, is home to more than 500 high-achieving students.

Another Honors College Forum has concluded this spring and with it came more than 50 extraordinary project ideas focused on social innovation. Students gathered for lectures and presentations with guest speakers, studied in small seminars, and worked in interdisciplinary project-based teams to create detailed plans for change-making products, services, or initiatives.

The Honors College Forum culminates in interdisciplinary project-based teams presenting detailed plans for change-making products, services, or initiatives. At the end of the fall 2015 semester, an impressive range of innovation and creativity was on display in the many projects presented in sections and in the plenary pitch competition.

Nick Saul, co-author of The Stop: How the Fight for Good Food Transformed a Community and Inspired a Movement, visited the Honors College on February 16, sharing lunch with students, and inspiring listeners at a special lecture about the right to equal access to good food for all people regardless of wealth and status.

Open to All Rutgers Students

Located at the Honors College on the College Avenue Campus, the newest Rutgers Makerspace is now complete and open to all Rutgers students during the academic year on weekdays from 1-5pm, (room N104), and to HC students from 1-8pm.

Built as a resource for all Rutgers students who want to create, experiment, and tinker; and as a facility to help Honors College students fulfill the social innovation requirements of our curriculum, the Makerspace enables students to turn their ideas into reality.
