A Gifted Science Student Discovers her Mission

Avina Rami was always strong in science. She graduated from Biotechnology High School in Freehold, New Jersey, a magnet school where the academic program is intensely focused on biology, technology, and engineering. But it was at Rutgers, in the W. M. Keck Center for Collaborative Neuroscience, where Rami, a graduating senior in the Class of 2019, found the calling that would drive her research and exert a profound influence over the direction of her undergraduate work.

My advisor at the Institute for Women’s Leadership’s Leadership Scholars Program recommended that I take Dr. Roxane Gay’s class as the perfect way to explore the intersection of my interests in media and feminism. The experience changed my perspective on consuming media, made me a more confident writer, and gave me the opportunity to learn from one of the best in the field of cultural criticism.

For Lauren Krasnoff ('22, MGSA/HC), the pandemic lockdown caused her to "rethink the place that my group portraits had during a time of social distancing. I also started to contemplate how quarantine had changed my relationships to my loves ones and the world." Her painting, No Diving, was born and, this summer, featured in the Newark Museum as part of its New Jersey Arts Annual: ReVision and Respond.

Adora Moneme Set to Continue Medical Studies at Penn

Adora Moneme

This past May, Adora Moneme graduated from Rutgers University with a B.S. in Exercise Science and Sport Studies with Summa Cum Laude distinction. Although her scarlet uniform and cleats may be retired, Moneme's studies continue towards a career in pediatrics this August at the University of Pennsylvania.
