Rutgers University is putting the finishing touches on its new Honors College in New Brunswick - an elite program designed to keep the best students in state.
As an honors student in high school, Amanda Fraticelli loved the atmosphere of being surrounded by top students, she said.

The new Honors College at Rutgers University-New Brunswick, which formally opened its doors this semester, has enrolled 530 students. During a tour of several new buildings at Rutgers University's main campus on Thursday, Senate President Stephen Sweeney said the facilities will help encourage New Jersey students to stay in-state for college.
“These new laboratories, lecture halls and residence dorms let students both in the state and around the world know that New Jersey is committed to providing the greatest educational experience possible,” Sweeney said.
Though Sweeney was impressed, he said the state's investment should not be measured only in buildings. He hopes the updated facilities go a long way toward ending New Jersey's annual exodus of high school graduates to colleges in other states. "The one thing you don't want to do is export them," Sweeney said of students. "They are our future.”
