Laïlatou Bambara
Graduate Mentor Fellow

I am originally from Burkina-Faso (West Africa), and English is my 5th language. I came to the United States of America in 2012 to further my education. I am the first in my family to hold undergraduate and graduate degrees. Additionally, I am a former alumna of Essex County College (A.S. in Biology/Pre-Med), Rutgers University Newark (B.A. in Biology, Chemistry minor), and Montclair State University (M.S. in Biology). I had the opportunity to work at Rutgers Newark Learning Center as a Math tutor (all levels up to Calculus 2), at Montclair State University as a Graduate Assistant (GA) teaching biology labs, at Essex County College as the GS-LSAMP/Scholarship-STEM Coordinator, and at Rutgers New-Brunswick as a Teaching Assistant (TA) teaching microbiology labs. Furthermore, I joined the K-12 Educative Program and Rutgers Science Explorer as a Rutgers Graduate Associate teaching science to students while being an Afterschool Science Mentor with NYAS. Finally, I am a former mentor for Social Justice and Community-Building Project with Rutgers Douglass Residential College Students and the NALA-STEM students.

As a science “lover,” I will start a new chapter with Rutgers Health as a Doctoral Student in Health Informatics to combine science and technology to advance our healthcare system. Therefore, I am more than happy to help any students towards their academic paths and career goals: Time management to effectively pass your classes as an A student, choosing the right major, applying to graduate schools and summer opportunities for minority students, writing a resume/CV and a Personal Statement, requesting a letter of recommendation, balancing life and school, and applying for scholarships/internships. I look forward to connecting with ALL students, especially WOMEN, regardless of their ages, grades, majors, race, religion, and cultures.
