Liam Lau is a fourth-year PhD student working with Professor Piers Coleman in the fascinating field of theoretical quantum condensed matter physics. After completing his undergraduate and master's studies at the University of Cambridge in the UK, Liam is now exploring the peculiar behaviors that emerge when a macroscopic number of fundamental lego blocks of our universe, namely electrons, interact with each other in materials. His research aims to uncover exotic new states of matter, such as unconventional superconductors, which could have valuable technological applications. Liam has greatly benefited from the generous mentorship he's received over the years, and is now thrilled to pay it forward by providing similar guidance and support to students embarking on their own STEM journeys here at the Rutgers Honors College.
