HC Serves Series

As part of the Honors College mission to develop service-minded global citizens in search of a career with purpose, the HC Serves Series is held every semester and is designed to introduce students to all types of community service and civic engagement. Join us for programs including service opportunities, reflection, and other programs focused on giving back and engaging in the community.

HC Says No More

9:00pm to 10:00pm

Join Rutgers No More and Honors College Student Leaders in taking a stand against sexual violence. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a dialogue on sexual violence and learn more about student activism. Food will be served.  Students will receive 1 HC Serves hour for attending the event in its entirety and participating in the discussion.

Coffee with the Deans: Featuring the Honors College Service Assembly

Join Service Assembly for a special service themed Coffee with the Deans! Enjoy coffee, tea, and hot chocolate while learning about ways to get involved with service at the Honors College. Service Assembly is a new, open organization dedicated to creating community service events and programs, connecting Honors College students with community service opportunities across campus and in New Brunswick, and promoting service-learning.

HC Serves Series: Swab for Stem Cells

Join the local charity Kier’s Kidz and the community liaisons at a Stem Cell Drive in the Yard Commons! Learn about stem cell donation and the Kier’s Kidz foundation, and donate - all it takes is swabbing the inside of your cheek with a cotton swab. It’s an easy and fun way to help the live of children and young adults with cancer. All who donate will receive a treat and an HC serves hour!

No Teen Shame: Breaking the Stigma of Teen Motherhood

Join the Honors College Diversity Peer Educators for a workshop centered on teen motherhood, the shame and stigma associated with it, and how it all ties with socioeconomic status. In conjunction with the event, there will be a backpack drive, for which you can obtain 1 HC Serves Hour by also donating any school-themed item (ex. backpacks, pencil cases, looseleaf paper, folders, etc.) Food will be served!

Blood Drive

Join the Honors College Student Advisory Board and the New York Blood Center and give back to those in need by donating blood.  Students are encouraged but not required to sign up for a specific time to donate.

HC Serves Presents: Merrill Lynch Habitat for Humanity Build

7:00am to 5:00pm

Join Student Advisory Board in full day Habitat for Humanity Build with Merrill Lynch in Morristown, New Jersey. This is a unique opportunity to volunteer while engaging in networking. Habitat for Humanity is a global organization that brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. During this build, Honors College students and Merrill Lynch employees will be coming together to build a house in the local area. Students who participate will receive eight (8) HC Serves hours for volunteering. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first serve basis.
