Welcome to the Honors College!
We're so glad you're joining our community! Please check this page as well as your email throughout the summer for updates about some of the opportunities that you can look forward to, preparing for your transition to living on campus, and next steps required before move-in day. We want to make your transition to becoming an Honors College student as seamless as possible. We also want to introduce you to your deep network of support—staff, faculty, and students who are committed to you and to furthering inclusive excellence at the HC so that all students can thrive.
Your Network of Support

Upcoming Important Dates
Student Move-In Day
Move-In Day kicks off a weeklong Welcome Days celebration at the HC and Rutgers at large for new and returning students. The day is usually full of activity so sticking to your assigned move-in time is important. More details about move in will be available in early August.
Aug 31-Sep 5
Welcome Days provides a full week of social, community service, and formal college transition activities to help you become familiar with the Honors College mission and values, meet new friends, and learn about resources at the Honors College and Rutgers.
First Day of Classes
The first day and week of classes are a great time to introduce yourself to others—your classmates could turn into your best friends! To learn about the full academic year and key dates, you can view the Rutgers academic calendar.
HC Involvement & Community
Life at the HC
Throughout the year, the HC holds programs for students to get to know each other, share ideas and experiences, learn about professional and academic opportunities, and so much more. Read about life at the HC in our Student Blog and weekly Inside the Honors College, and follow us on Social Media
Student Support & Inclusive Communities
From community service to affinity groups, clubs, and student leadership, there are so many ways to engage. We are dedicated to providing a platform and space to support students of diverse backgrounds through programming, wellness initiatives, and advocacy.
Academics & Advising
Signature Academic Courses
All first-year Honors College students take the Forum, our interdisciplinary mission course where you'll learn how to transform your ideas into action through social impact, and the Cross-Cultural Competency Course, where you'll learn from each other through social justice projects that further inclusive excellence in our communities.
Each year, the summer reading selection fosters a community-wide discussion around one or more global challenge(s) in preparation for the first-year Forum and the Cross-Cultural Competency Course. As a living-learning community with a shared mission around social impact, this collective discussion is central to the Honors College experience.
Your Next Steps
Visit the Rutgers–New Brunswick Admitted Student page where you can find an enrolling student checklist and access your myRutgers dashboard, your central place for housing, setting up your NetID and ScarletMail, placement testing, and more.
Complete your housing application as soon as possible as living in the Honors College community is a requirement for
all first-year students. Be sure to get your NetID first as it may take a few days for it to become active in the housing system.
Get to Know Your Class
