Studio Night at the HC

By Megan Wang ('21/SEBS, HC Media Team)

The recent push for greater focus on the humanities in schools has resulted in the evolution of STEM into STEAM: Science Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. But what about art for art’s sake? Can we also appreciate artwork simply for its value in creative expression? Here at the Honors College, we wanted to support another side of our students beyond academics, a side that gives form to their unique passions.

To provide a creative outlet for those interested in drawing, the HC Media Team hosted a Studio Night on the evening of Thursday, February 22 in the Druskin Lounge. A still life, reminiscent of a quiet library corner, was arranged for sketching, and plenty of charcoal and drawing paper were supplied. Coffee, tea, and delicious cookies covered the refreshments table off to the side. All were welcome, from curious passersby to the piano player who had unknowingly been providing pleasant background music. Easy chatter among the two full tables of talented artists maintained a light atmosphere until the end of the night.

Before they dispersed, everyone was asked to consider submitting works to the new digital magazine, soon to be launched. This invitation extends to all HC students - show us, through fine art, performance, photography, written word, or videography, who you are and what it means to be HC.

Email your piece as an attachment to hcmediateam@rutgers.edu.
Include in the email your name, class year, the title of your work (can also be untitled), and a short description of your work if applicable.

Keep an eye out for the next open submissions period!
