Gavin Wagner ('24, SEBS/SOE/HC) has been in Antarctica since late October working on the McMurdo Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) project as a technician maintaining stream gauges and assisting other graduate students with their sampling efforts—he lives in F6 hut in Taylor Valley, and temperatures recently just rose above freezing for the first time since he arrived. He's been a part of the project since last year, when he built MDV ClimEx, an interactive data viewer to display historical weather data and identify extreme climate events. Gavin was a 5-year Honors College student with two different degree programs plus one minor, and in 2023 served as one of our two convocation speakers. He also started the first day of class peaches tradition that we carry on. If you'd like to read more about Gavin's adventures and life in Antarctica, check out his blog!
