Carolyn Johnson is an Assistant Dean and the Director of Advising for the Honors College. She began her role in 2024, prior to which she was the District Supervisor of Guidance for Barnegat Township School District. While in her prior role, she led the district’s pursuit of standards of excellence and success for students’ academic, social, and personal well-being. She oversaw a district-wide team of fifteen counselors and student success coordinators across six schools and was personally responsible for working with students and their families throughout the college recruitment and admissions processes. Extremely skilled in establishing community partnerships, long-range planning, and process evaluation, as well as monitoring student progress, Carolyn’s counseling and advising work stretches back to 2009, including as an Academic Advisor early on in her career, at Purdue. She holds degrees from Purdue (BA in Health and Physical Education), Rider (MA in School Counseling), and Seton Hall (Educational Specialist in Leadership, Management, and Policy). In the Honors College she focuses on student success through academic planning, individual student adaptations, coordinating advising strategies and applications, strengthening the Honors Capstone Experience, and ensuring that our students are served through high-impact academic practices.
