Honors Programming Committee (HPC)

The Honors Programming Committee (HPC) is a student-run organization that serves the Rutgers University–New Brunswick Honors College student population with signature events across the New Brunswick campus. As an extension of the Student Support & Inclusive Communities unit, we strive to fulfill the idea of making memorable programs by providing on-campus high impact activities that support the Honors College Student Success outcomes throughout the academic year.

Event Planners part of HPC will have the opportunity to:

Further develop leadership, team-building, public speaking, and event planning skills
Meet and work with community leaders, University staff, and administration
Use creativity to help support the mission of the Honors College
Become part of a tight-knit community of fellow student leaders
Utilize and improve time management and organizational skills
Take ownership and accountability for the work they have created with their team
Curate the social, wellness, community service, and traditional events offered to Honors College students
Model the latest in Honors College student leader apparel!

Positions and Responsibilities

HPC is comprised of several divisions that oversee specific responsibilities within the Committee. Although all Event Planners will have specific responsibilities, they will have the opportunity to create additional programs that do not align with their specific divisional goals.

Core Division
- The Core Division is responsible for social, wellness, and general community-wide programming during the week and weekend, as well as outreach for co-sponsored events and event ideas submitted by students.
Community Service Division
- The Community Service Division is responsible for planning community service projects for the Honors College community.
Traditions Division
- The Traditions Division is responsible for planning Coffeehouses (typically in October or December, February or April), a Welcome Week event (freestyle) in the Fall, and the Spring Large-Scale event (typically tied in with Student Centers and Activities’ Geek Week).
Marketing Division
- The Marketing Division is responsible for developing marketing and promotional materials for HPC events, as well as planning core events. This division will work as a liaison to our Senior Director for Marketing & Communications and our Director for Digital & Visual Experience to ensure all events are receiving promotional materials that meet the standards set for the Honors College and can be promoted in a timely fashion.

All Event Planners are responsible for executing all aspects concerning an event including, but not limited to: picking a location and reserving the space, detailing out all expenses and coming to a final budget, delegating tasks, collaborating with other Event Planners and other clubs or organizations where applicable, contacting vendors/agents, ordering supplies, and evaluating the event. Additionally, all Event Planners are responsible for marketing and promoting HPC, as well as their events; this is not strictly a Marketing Division responsibility. Event Planners will help plan out the Activity Calendar for each semester of the academic year one semester in advance, with the exception of co-sponsored events.

Qualifications

In order to apply and serve as an Event Planner for the Honors Programming Committee, you must:

Be an Honors College student (including current Honors College, School of Arts and Sciences Honors Program, Engineering Honors Academy, and School of Environmental and Biological Sciences Honors Program students) in good academic standing (not on continued probation) as defined by the Honors College school of enrollment.
Be actively progressing towards completing Honors College, School of Arts and Sciences Honors Program, Engineering Honors Academy, and School of Environmental and Biological Sciences Honors Program requirements set prior to the incoming Class of 2029.
Have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with diverse students, staff, and faculty.
Have the ability to effectively manage time and multiple projects.
Have a demonstrated desire to learn and develop new skills.
