Rutgers Announces First Schwarzman Scholars

A recent Rutgers graduate and two seniors were named today as the university’s first Schwarzman Scholars, a prestigious global program designed to help students develop their leadership skills while pursuing a master’s degree in global affairs at one of the top universities in China.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – In the home opener on Jan. 19, Belle Huang posted three scores of 9.800 or better for Rutgers gymnastics, including a career-high 9.925 on floor exercise. However, the sophomore was not done with gymnastics for the day following the college meet. She switched sides of the table from competing to judging the youth meet inside the Livingston Gym.

An aspiring dentist, Hanna’s two loves – dentistry and humanitarian work – led him to Nicaragua last summer, where he spent a week providing medical and dental care in underprivileged areas with Rutgers Global Brigades.

Maya Ravichandran, an HC student whose extraordinary interdisciplinary undergraduate work set her apart, was one of only 46 students in the nation awarded the postgraduate scholarship. The profound experience of losing her grandfather to leukemia when she was only 5 continues to guide Maya as she pursues a career as a physician-scientist working with artificial intelligence (AI).

Booker, D-N.J., and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., introduced legislation Wednesday requiring colleges to take a more active role in making students eligible to vote.

Honors College Students Win Regional Hult Prize Competition

UPDATE: Sulis won the Regional Hult Prize Competition March 10, 2018 in Boston! Next up for the Sulis team is the Hult summer startup accelerator in London where the top 50 Hult Prize startups from around the world will spend eight weeks in a castle together, learning and refining their concepts. At the end of the summer, 6 teams will be chosen to compete for the $1 million global Hult Prize. Sulis is one of two Rutgers–New Brunswick teams among the 50 regional Hult Prize winners. The other is LivingWaters.

How One Student's Inspiration Took Flight at NASA

Since I was young, I have always had a fascination with flight. For a time, I even wanted to be an astronaut (ok, I still do). In high school I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work in the aircraft maintenance shop of a local airport and take flight lessons—I was able to say I flew a plane before I could drive a car! Flying is an experience like no other. From my first time in a small plane seeing the trees drop away as the plane climbed during takeoff, I became hooked. On a clear day, I could often see the ocean, New York, and Philadelphia at the same time.
