Are you looking to apply your skills and gain new experiences worthy of sharing on your resume? Are you hoping to explore industries and job functions without committing to summer or semester-long internships?
The Honors College provides students with support for strategizing ways to explore, make connections, and determine their career plans. Micro-Internships found through the Parker Dewey platform are a perfect way for students from all majors to find opportunities to execute professional assignments and build and demonstrate skills while exploring a variety of career paths.
What Are Micro-Internships?
Micro-Internships are short-term, paid, professional assignments that are similar to those given to new hires or interns. Unlike traditional internships, Micro-Internships:
Can take place year-round remotely
Typically range from 10 to 40 hours of work
Are typically due between one week and one month after kick-off
What Are The Benefits of Micro-Internships?
Micro-Internships are a great way to take advantage of spare time to set yourself up for success. By participating in a micro-internship, you can:
- Learn and hone skills employers look for when recruiting for internships and full-time positions
- Explore new industries and potential and different career paths
- Build tangible relationships with employers by demonstrating skills and abilities
- Work on interesting projects
- Enhance and expand your resume
- Make extra money over breaks or in between semesters
Micro-Internships are used by companies ranging from those in the Fortune 100 to emerging start-ups in a variety of fields. Micro-Internships are facilitated via the Parker Dewey platform, which connects Rutgers Honors College students and recent graduates with companies in need of support.
Undocumented students are eligible to work as independent contractors and apply for these micro-internships/projects. In addition, the Rutgers Office of the Dean of Students provides support for all students in a variety of ways, including for undocumented students for whom project-based work such as through Parker Dewey, among others, is an option for gaining experience. Get Started with a Micro-Internship!
Step 1. Create your profile in less than 10 minutes and start applying today; you do not need a resume to create your profile! Remember that you also need to apply for each micro-internship to be considered for the opportunity.
Please make sure to indicate that you are an ‘Honors student’ when setting up your profile so that you can see all opportunities available to you as a Rutgers–New Brunswick Honors College student.
Step 2. Search for opportunities.
Check back regularly as new opportunities are always entering the system.
Step 3. Select a project and apply. Most projects have time-sensitive deadlines, so once you find a project that meets your skills, answer the series of questions as soon as possible to be considered by the employer.
