One of the most important skills you can develop is an ability to succinctly present an idea in a way that is both accessible and captivates an audience. What better way to hone that skill than to participate in a fun event in a safe space, where your fellow Honors College students are cheering you on, and there is no grade attached, and there are no high stakes!

 Enter…”One Quick Thing I Learned

Have you discovered something absolutely mind-blowing and exciting from a course that you would love to share with others, but it’s so complex or seems so simple that you don’t know where to begin without being an expert? Or, have you found yourself slowly slogging through the most boring content ever imagined, wondering if there is a way you could find some captivating morsel buried under there to make it exciting to anyone? If so, this event is for you!

In “One Quick Thing I Learned,” your goal is to take that *one thing* that stuck out to you and make it come alive in a way that makes others want to learn more…in less than 5 minutes!

For this event, we’re putting you in the hands of HC Faculty Fellow, Dr. Kristen Syrett, who has helped organize the 5-Minute Linguist Event for 3-Minute Thesis events for the Linguistic Society of America. She has served as the LSA’s Public Relations Committee chair, and has been interviewed for features in outlets such as NPR, CNN, and the New Yorker.
