Emma May is a Ph.D. student in Library and Information Science. Their research uses feminist and critical information science approaches to examine the political implications of information in activism, and the ways that technology affects movement-building practices. Emma graduated from Barnard College in May 2018, with a degree in Women's Studies and a minor in Sociology. Emma has extensive nonprofit communications experience, most recently with the Women's Refugee Commission (WRC). They have also worked with organizations such as The Sylvia Rivera Law Project, Bitch Media, and The Barnard Center for Research on Women on outreach, social media marketing, and development. In addition to Emma's interest in nonprofit work, they have experience pursuing editorial work about music and pop culture for publications such as VICE Media's Noisey and SPIN.
