Panelists:

Michael Nitzsche, Class of 2019- MIT for Mechanical Engineering

Collin McManus, Class of 2019- Princeton University for Molecular Biology

Meredith Giovanelli, Class of 2019- Columbia University for Health Policy

Justin Wong, Class of 2019- Stanford University for Data Science

Colin McManus

Collin is a graduate student in the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton. He is advised by Sabine Petry, whose lab applies techniques from biochemistry, structural biology, and biophysics to characterize the molecular mechanisms underlying assembly of the mitotic spindle and microtubule cytoskeleton. At Rutgers, Collin majored in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and minored in Latin and Chemistry, graduating with the inaugural class of the Honors College in 2019. He completed a thesis in the lab of Barth Grant, interned at the NYU Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences, and got his start in research through the Aresty Summer Science Program.

Michael Nitzsche

Michael is a graduate student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT. He is advised by Professor Asegun Henry, who conducts research in ultra-high-temperature devices and systems for renewable energy applications. He graduated from the Honors College in 2019 with majors in mechanical engineering and computer science, as well as a minor in mathematics. At Rutgers, Mike conducted research in the Hybrid Micro/Nanomanufacturing Laboratory under Professor Jonathan Singer, where he completed his J.J. Slade Thesis. He also completed research internships at NASA Glenn Research Center, the University of Minnesota, and through the Aresty Summer Science Program.

Meredith Giovanelli

Meredith is a graduate student in the Department of Health Policy & Management at Columbia University, getting her Master of Public Health. She is interested in how public policy can address health disparities in the U.S. by targeting social determinants such as racial and gender inequity, affordable housing, and educational opportunities. She graduated from the Honors College in 2019 with a major in Public Health and a minor in Evolutionary Anthropology.  At Rutgers, Meredith was the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal for Bioethics and an Eagleton Undergraduate Associate. As an undergrad, she interned on political campaigns and worked for the House of Representatives in Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill’s office.

Justin Wong

Justin graduated from the Honors College in 2019, majoring in Electrical & Computer Engineering and Mathematics. At Rutgers, Justin conducted research on parameter optimization for use in ornithopter robot design, supervised by Professor Denda. He also had experiences as a software developer intern at various companies and as a research intern studying high dimensional data at Perspecta Labs. He now is a graduate student at Stanford in the Department of Statistics focused on inference reliability in high dimensional data problems.
