Community Conversations (Group A)

Join your Honors Community Mentors in small group discussions about finding common ground and building toward a beloved community with each other as the newest members of the Honors College. 

What to Expect at Community Conversations

Community Conversations is a half day of activities for incoming Honors College students to connect with the Summer One Read and establish norms for participating in the Honors College community. Following the Summer One Read author presentation, Community Conversations will take place in small groups throughout various academic spaces on the College Avenue Campus.

• Students in Group A will be led to a group meeting spot to begin Community Conversations on College Avenue with their student facilitators.
• Students in Group B will be directed to the Rodkin Family Courtyard for a community barbecue.
• Students will participate in an icebreaker activity to help everyone feel more comfortable participating in the larger conversation.
• Students will engage in an active movement exercise to answer questions about their personal experience with the Summer One Read, including their own thoughts and opinions about the reading.
• Students will share things about the college experience they are excited about and things they might be concerned about. 
• Students in Group B will be led to a group meeting spot to begin Community Conversations on College Avenue with their student facilitators.
• Students in Group A will be directed to the Rodkin Family Courtyard for a community barbecue.
