Honors College and Rutgers Cancer Institute

Program Overview

The Rutgers Youth Enjoy Science (RUYES) program seeks to encourage youth to pursue cancer research and healthcare careers. 

To achieve this goal, RUYES: 

  • Engages educators in cancer-focused research, curriculum/course building, and outreach to enhance the value of STEM education and science research careers among their students
  • Inspires, motivates and educates high school and undergraduate students through mentored cancer research training, co-curricular support and professional development activities. 
  • Connects with middle school students and their families in their communities through innovative outreach activities to enhance awareness and appreciation of science education and research careers. 

Eligibility and Requirements 

The program runs from June - August every summer.

To be eligible, students:

  • Must be in good academic standing at Rutgers-New Brunswick. 
  • Must be a rising first-year or sophomore.
  • Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident (green-card holder) of the United States
  • Willingness to commit to two full years or participation in the program
  • Must be highly motivated and academically able to pursue a career in biomedical/cancer science
  • Must be able to commute/live within a reasonable distance of the Rutgers Cancer Institute in New Brunswick
