Honors College Faculty Fellow and Interdisciplinary Teaching Professor

Dr. Mary Chayko is a Faculty Fellow in Residence at the Honors College, and a sociologist, Interdisciplinary Teaching Professor, and Director of Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies for Rutgers' School of Communication and Information (SC&I). She directs the interdisciplinary Digital Communication, Information and Media (DCIM) and Gender and Media minors at SC&I, and is affiliated faculty with the Sociology and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies departments at Rutgers. Dr. Chayko received a B.A. in Communication and Psychology from Seton Hall University, and an Ed.M in Counseling Psychology, and M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology, from Rutgers University. Her research is on the impact of the Internet, digital technology, and social media on society, community, and self. She is the author of many published articles and four books, most recently Superconnected: The Internet, Digital Media, and Techno-Social Life (Sage). Dr. Chayko teaches Honors Interdisciplinary Seminars and Byrne Seminars for the Rutgers honors community, is a mentor for the Rutgers athletic department, and has been honored with Rutgers' Presidential Award for Teaching Excellence (2019) as a Rutgers University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Contributor to Undergraduate Education (1994).
