Honors College Scholastic Standing Policy

The academic performance of all Honors College students will be reviewed at the end of each semester.  All decisions regarding a student's status in the program are based on the fall or spring grade point average (GPA).

Honors College Probation

  • If a student’s semester grade point average is below the required school-based grade point average in any semester, that student will be placed on Honors College Probation.
  • Any student placed on Honors College Probation will be informed of his/her academic status by email. It is the responsibility of an Honors College Probation student to meet with his/her assigned Honors College adviser to discuss his/her current GPA and to create a plan of action to raise the grade point average.

Honors College Continued Probation

  • If a student’s semester grade point average is below the required grade point average for a consecutive semester, that student will be placed on Honors College Continued Probation. If the grade point average continues to be below the required minimum for a third consecutive semester, the student will be dismissed from the Honors College.
  • If a student's semester average is below 2.0 for any semester, that student will be placed directly on Honors College Continued Probation and will have one semester to achieve the required grade point average.
  • Any student placed on Honors College Continued Probation will be informed of his/her academic status by email. It is the responsibility of an Honors College Probation student to meet with his/her assigned Honors College adviser to discuss his/her current GPA and to create a plan of action to raise the grade point average.

Determining Honors College Probation, Continued Probation and Dismissal Status

  • When academic performance is reviewed, temporary (“T”) grade(s) are counted in the semester GPA; TZ, TF, and NG grades are calculated as “F.”  It is the responsibility of the student to inform the Honors College of any grade changes.  If a change of grade results in the required semester GPA, the student's status will be adjusted appropriately.
  • The Honors College determines Honors College Probation, Continued Probation and Dismissal status based on the term grade point average.  Repeating a course does not affect Honors College Probation, Continued Probation, or Dismissal status.
  • Any student dismissed from the Honors College will be informed in writing by the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.
  • A student who has been dismissed from the Honors College will not be allowed to enroll in Interdisciplinary Honors Seminars or Honors College Courses and will not be eligible for Honors housing.
  • After the first year, Honors College students who fall below a 3.0 cumulative grade point average may be subject to Dean’s Review through the Honors College.
